History
The Panigaglia plant is the only LNG receiving
and regasification plant in Italy; there are currently 40 such plants
elsewhere in the world. Built between 1967 and 1970, the plant was
modernised in order to permit the processing of light liquefied natural
gas of various origins. Between 1995 and 1997 it was upgraded,
specifically in the modification of the two tanks from single to double
containment.
The plant, which covers an area of
approximately 45,000 square metres, was subject to major environmental
upgrading between 1990 and 1996 carried out by the School of
Architecture and Landscape in Genoa with the aim of integrating the
industrial complex into the surrounding landscape both chromatically and
volumetrically. Since 1 February 2001, the plant has been running at
full steam, registering a continual increase in production, achieving
values close to maximum capacity.
