The advantages
The convenience of transforming natural gas
into liquid form lies in the fact that its volume is reduced by around
600 times, making sea transportation an economical alternative to
transportation via pipelines. This is particularly useful when the need
arises to diversify the supply sources, especially considering the
increase in the distance between the regions where the product is
produced and those where it is consumed, thereby permitting the
importation of gas from producing countries not connected by pipeline.
Over the years, LNG has assumed a strategic supply role in several
countries, and is acquiring growing importance with regards to supplying
Mediterranean Europe thanks to the increase in production potential of
suppliers such as Nigeria, Algeria and Egypt.

Summing up:
- it is economically convenient in low-volume
markets;
- diversified supply options;
- economically advantageous over long
distances with respect to pipelines;
- possibility of storage.
